Last season, he finished just behind Cristiano Ronaldo for the Saudi Pro League’s golden boot and helped Al Ahli clinch the Asian Champions League, then claim the Saudi Super Cup in August. In his first season in Saudi Arabia, the 29-year-old struck 30 times across all competitions.
“Never say never,” Toney told Sky Sports News when asked about returning to England.
“I have goals to achieve here first. The club signed me for a long period, and I want to repay them by winning trophies. In football and life, you never know what’s around the corner. Who knows what the next step is?”
“I’m comfortable here and I enjoy it. My numbers speak for themselves and I’m settled. I’m thriving on the pitch and I don’t see why I’d leave to go back to where I was.”
Context matters: Toney’s move to Saudi Arabia after representing England at Euro 2024 drew some criticism, with observers suggesting the transfer might dent his Three Lions prospects. He has made only one England appearance under manager Thomas Tuchel—a two-minute cameo against Senegal in June 2025—and hasn’t been called up in the three camps since.
Yet the striker remains optimistic about a recall ahead of the 2026 World Cup, a tournament set to unfold in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. He believes he still has plenty to offer Tuchel’s squad.
“Going to the World Cup would mean a lot,” he said. “I’ve never played at a World Cup, and it would be a dream. If we won it, that would be enormous for the country. You imagine what could happen.”
Toney discussed how his experience with heat could be an advantage, noting that adapting to high temperatures requires a strategic approach to runs and pacing. He contends he’s already acclimated, having faced 30-plus degree conditions in Saudi Arabia, and that his current form and fitness speak for themselves.
“I’ll keep scoring,” he added, emphasizing that his goal is to maximize his chances for selection. “This might be my last big opportunity. It’s about what’s best for the country; the coach will decide, and I’ll respect that.”
He also stressed that despite his substantial salary, he remains driven to perform at a high level, contribute to the team, and chase big achievements. If England calls, he’s ready to answer—and if not, he’s still focused on delivering for Al Ahli and pursuing further glory in Saudi Arabia.
